Every student should have an opportunity to see and learn what the wonderful city of Atlanta has to offer.

Welcome to Atlanta, the “Capital of the “New South.” During the Civil War, Atlanta became the target of a major Union invasion, which became the setting for the famous film “Gone with the Wind.”  This great city is also part of history as a major organizing center of the US Civil Rights Movement, with Dr. Martin Luther King as one of the  leaders in the movement. Today Atlanta is a thriving, cosmopolitan city, both economically and culturally. On your school tour of Atlanta, you will visit the past and present in this city.

Atlanta History Center

The Atlanta History Center is a histor¬y museum consisting of 33 Acres in Buckhead. The History Center includes one of the Southeast’s largest history museums: two historic houses including Swan House and Smith Family Farm, Centennial Olympic Games Museum, historic gardens, and the Kenan Research Center. The Museum also has one of the largest collections of civil war artifacts in the world

Centennial Olympic Park

Centennial Olympic Park, which used to be a rundown section of downtown Atlanta, is now a very popular stop while on your student tour. The Centennial Park is a 21 acre park and ¬¬was constructed to celebrate Atlanta’s hosting of the 1996 summer Olympics.

Fernbank Museum of Natural History

Fernbank Museum of Natural History provides many exhibitions and programs about natural history that are meant to entertain and educate your students while on this Atlanta student trip. Fernbank Museum has many permanent exhibitions.  One of the favorites in the museum is a 123 foot long Argentinosaurus (the largest dinosaur ever classified) as well as a Giganotosaurus.

Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium is the world’s largest aquarium with more than 120,000 animals of 500 different species. The aquarium’s notable specimens include four young whale sharks, four beluga whales, eleven Bottlenose dolphins, three great hammerhead sharks, and four manta rays.  Many school tours include this while in Atlanta

Inside CNN Studio Tour

Your students will have an inside look as the news is being broadcast all over the world. While in CNN, your group can take an expanded tour with access to working studios and learn the ins-and-outs of television production from inside CNN’s Studio 7.

Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum

The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum houses U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s papers and other materials relating to the Carter administration and Carter’s family life. The library also hosts special exhibits, such as Carter’s Nobel Peace Prize and a full-scale replica of the Oval Office.

Margaret Mitchell House

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and operated by the Atlanta History Center, the Margaret Mitchell House is a turn-of-the century, three-story, Tudor Revival building where Margaret Mitchell lived and wrote her Pulitzer-Prize winning book, “Gone With the Wind.” This famous book and then movie , was set in Atlanta and was about the American Civil War and Reconstruction.

Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site & Sweet Auburn District

Your group will see MLK’s boyhood home on Auburn Ave. in the Sweet Auburn historic district and see the original Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he and his father pastored. These locations are important parts to understand MLK’s life and legacy.  At the museum, your group will follow the chronicles of the civil rights movement and see the “International Civil Rights Walk of Fame.”  It is important that your kids stop by this significant site while on your educational tour of Atlanta.

National Center for Civil and Human Rights

OPENING SUMMER 2014 – The National Center for Civil and Human Rights will be a 35,000 square foot world class cultural institution dedicated to exploring stories of civil and human rights. The Center expects individual galleries that will be a combination of powerful imagery, captivating artifacts, and moving story-telling.

Stone Mountain Park

Just 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta there is much to do at Stone Mountain Park. At the Stone Mountain Museum you will learn about the world’s largest piece of exposed granite, see artifacts and hear stories that span 12,000 years, and see the Confederate Memorial on Stone Mountain, the largest relief carving in the world.

World of Coca-Cola

At the World of Coca-Cola your group will hear the history of the world’s most famous beverage brand, walk through a fully-functioning bottling line and view over 1,200 artifacts, including a 1939 Coca-Cola delivery truck. While at this Museum, your student group will experience the thrilling 4-D movie, “In Search of the Secret Formula,” and have the chance to sample over 60 different beverages made by The Coca-Cola in the Taste It! beverage lounge.

Zoo Atlanta

Zoo Atlanta has more than 1,500 animals from around the world. At the zoo students will be able to feed a giraffe and encounter African elephants, giant pandas and Komodo dragons. Other highlights include the largest collections of gorillas and orangutans in the U.S. and reptiles and amphibians.
